Rigid Heddle Loom Kits
Frequently Asked Questions - Weaving Kits under £45
What types of weaving kit are available under £45?
The range includes square frame loom kits (from £27), scarf weaving kits for rigid heddle looms (from £38), backstrap belt weaving kits (£30–£40), a flower weaving brooch kit (£30), and a beginner gift box set with two looms (£44). All are designed and made by TabbyandTweed in Salisbury, Wiltshire.
Do I need a loom to use these kits?
It depends on the kit. The frame loom kits, belt weaving kits, and beginner gift box set all include the loom. The scarf weaving kits include yarn and a pattern but require a rigid heddle loom - if you don’t already have one, the rigid heddle loom kits bundle the loom with a weaving kit.
What level of experience do these kits suit?
The range covers complete beginners through to intermediate weavers. The frame loom and beginner gift box kits are designed for those who have never woven before. The scarf kits are labelled by level: beginner kits use plain weave and simple colour sequences; intermediate kits introduce log cabin, pick-up stick, colour and weave, and tartan structures.
Are these kits suitable as gifts?
Yes all kits include everything needed to get started, and several are available in a gift box. The scarf weaving kits are ideal for someone who already has a rigid heddle loom; for someone who doesn’t yet have a loom, the beginner gift box set or rigid heddle loom bundles are the better choice. Gift cards are also available if you’d prefer to let the recipient choose.
Do you ship outside the UK?
Yes. TabbyandTweed ships to the UK, USA, Canada and Australia. See the shipping and returns page for current rates and delivery times.
What is the best kit under £45 for a complete beginner?
The beginners weaving gift box (44) would be a great choice. It includes both a bookmark and square loom including all the yarn and a comb to start weaving. They are small, quick to set up, and teach the five core weaving patterns (tabby, twill, houndstooth, log cabin, and tartan) in a single sitting.
Are these kits suitable for children?
We don't recommend our weaving kits for children.
Do the kits come gift-wrapped?
All kits arrive in presentable packaging and are gift-ready straight from purchase. Most of the bookmark weaving kits have the option of being purchased in a gift box.
What if the recipient wants to try a bigger weaving project after this kit?
The bookmark and frame loom kits are the first step in the TabbyandTweed product range. Once the recipient has completed their first project, the natural progression is to a rigid heddle loom kit (for scarves and fabrics). The TabbyandTweed loom guide can help them decide which step to take next. The Weaving Club (launching June 2026) also offers a monthly rigid heddle pattern subscription for weavers who are ready for their next challenge.
