Frequently Asked Questions - Weaving Kits under £25
Are these kits genuinely complete - does the recipient need to buy anything else?
Yes, every kit on this page is complete. Each one includes the assembled loom (made from FSC-certified birch plywood), yarn in the colourway shown, a weaving comb or shuttle, a tapestry needle, and a full written instruction booklet. Nothing else is needed before the recipient can get started. A free video tutorial is also available on the TabbyandTweed YouTube channel to support the written instructions for the bookmark weaving loom kits.
What is the best kit under £25 for a complete beginner?
The bookmark weaving loom kits (£25) are the recommended first step for anyone who has never woven before. They are small, quick to set up, and teach the five core weaving patterns (tabby, twill, houndstooth, log cabin, and tartan) in a single sitting. The circular weaving loom kits (£24–£25) are also a good beginner choice, producing a small decorative woven piece (often called a mandala) with no warping step required.
What is the difference between a bookmark kit, a square frame kit, and a circular kit?
A bookmark loom kit produces woven bookmarks - narrow strips of fabric woven on a small rectangular frame. A square frame loom kit produces small square woven pieces such as coasters or samplers on a square frame. A circular weaving loom kit produces a small round woven piece on a circular frame - the finished result is often decorative rather than functional. All three are beginner-friendly; the bookmark kit is the most popular first choice.
Are these kits suitable for children?
We don't recommend our weaving kits for children.
Do the kits come gift-wrapped?
All kits arrive in presentable packaging and are gift-ready straight from purchase. Most of the bookmark weaving kits have the option of being purchased in a gift box.
What if the recipient wants to try a bigger weaving project after this kit?
The bookmark and frame loom kits are the first step in the TabbyandTweed product range. Once the recipient has completed their first project, the natural progression is to a rigid heddle loom kit (for scarves and fabrics). The TabbyandTweed loom guide can help them decide which step to take next. The Weaving Club (launching June 2026) also offers a monthly rigid heddle pattern subscription for weavers who are ready for their next challenge.
