What can I weave on a TabbyandTweed rigid heddle loom?

Our rigid heddle looms are perfect for learning to weave small pieces of fabric.  They have been designed to weave scarves.  The fabric can also be used to create snoods, table runners but also can be sewn into bags and other items.  You can explore the range of rigid heddle weaving loom kits here.

Is weaving a sustainable craft?

Our looms are made in the UK and we use predominantly British wool in our kits.  We strive to source locally where possible.  Weaving is great from a sustainability point of view.  It enables you to weave fabrics and accessories for yourself.  You can even weave fabric scraps as outlined in a recent blog post 'Reuse and recycle your waste fabric to create a stunning sustainable coaster using a rigid heddle weaving loom'

Sustainability is important to me - it is important to you as a small business?

Yes, it is.  We have recently moved to predominantly recyclable packaging.  We now package our small weaving kits in paper bags without the need for plastic packaging.  Boxes are made of brown recyclable cardboard.  You can read more about our drive towards a sustainable business here.

I am struggling to get a really neat selvedge - any tips?

Yes, we have a blog which should help with this.  You can read the blog '7 practical tips for the perfect selvedge: A weaver's guide when weaving a scarf on a rigid heddle loom' to help.

Can you weave complex designs on a rigid heddle loom?

There are lots of patterns that can be woven on a rigid heddle weaving loom.   Jane Patricks book 'The Ideas Book' is an amazing resource for lots of different rigid heddle weaving loom projects.   OUr weaving looms can also have a 4 shaft extension kit fitted to them and you can read about this in our blog ' Extending the design possibilities - converting a rigid heddle loom to enable weaving on 4 shafts'.
