The Complete First Step into Weaving - Everything in One Gift-Ready Box

A beautifully presented gift box containing two reusable FSC-certified birch looms, bright British wool yarn (with hand-dyed options), a mini comb, tapestry needle, and a full instruction booklet. Everything a new weaver needs to start creating - in a box ready to give.

Two Looms, One Box

Most beginner weaving kits include a single loom. This gift box includes two - each producing different types of woven pieces and teaching complementary skills.

  • Bookmark loom (6.8cm × 20.8cm, FSC and PEFC certified birch plywood): produces long, narrow woven strips - bookmarks, bag handle ties, decorative bands. Quick to set up, satisfying to complete in a single session.
  • Square frame loom (11cm × 11cm, FSC and PEFC certified birch plywood): produces small square woven patches - coasters, fabric swatches, appliqué patches, greetings card inserts, small wall art pieces. A different shape, a different scale, and a new set of creative possibilities.

Both looms are reusable and can be used again with any DK yarn once the included yarn is finished.

Hand-Dyed Yarn Options

The kit is available in three yarn set options. Two of the three options include a skein of hand-dyed British wool yarn - individually coloured with beautifully varied tones that cannot be replicated by machine-dyed alternatives. The third option uses bright, solid-colour British wool yarn throughout.

Select your preferred yarn set from the dropdown at checkout. Colour details for each option are shown there.

What You will Learn

The instruction booklet covers three core weaving patterns, introduced step by step:

  • Tabby (plain weave)  the foundation of all weaving, where warp and weft threads alternate in a simple over-under sequence
  • Twill  the diagonal interlacement structure used in denim and herringbone fabric
  • Houndstooth  the classic two-colour geometric check pattern

These three patterns are the building blocks of almost all hand-woven fabric and provide a solid foundation for any weaving journey that follows.

What is in the Kit

The woven bookmark and square patch shown in the photos are not included - they show what you will be able to make with this kit.

A Gift That Lasts

This is TabbyandTweed’s most comprehensive beginner gift set. It is the ideal gift for anyone who enjoys knitting, crochet, sewing, or yarn crafts and would enjoy learning a new creative skill. The box arrives gift-ready with no extra wrapping needed.

Both looms are made from certified sustainable birch plywood in TabbyandTweed’s UK workshop - built to last and designed to be used again and again, not discarded after the first project.

Once the recipient has worked through the included yarn and patterns, a natural next step is one of the TabbyandTweed rigid heddle loom kits - where the same foundational weaving skills are applied to create full-length scarves and woven fabric in British wool.
