Choose Blue, Pink and Grey or Lilac, Dark Grey and Pale Grey - An Intermediate Kit to Learn Pick-Up Stick Weaving on Your Own Rigid Heddle Loom
An intermediate pick-up stick scarf weaving kit for rigid heddle loom owners. Includes 4 balls of 60% Lyocell / 40% British Falkland wool yarn - exceptionally soft with a silky sheen - a pick-up stick, and detailed instructions. Choose from two colourways. The loom is not included.
The Lyocell and Falkland Wool Yarn
The yarn in this kit is a 60% Lyocell and 40% British Falkland wool blend - one of only two products in the TabbyandTweed range to use it. Lyocell is a sustainably produced cellulosic fibre made from wood pulp in a closed-loop manufacturing process that recovers and reuses almost all of its solvent. The result is a fibre with exceptional softness, a subtle natural sheen, and good moisture-wicking properties.
British Falkland wool is finer and more lustrous than many British upland wools. Together, the Lyocell/Falkland blend produces a yarn that is noticeably softer than standard wool, with a silky texture against the skin and a sheen that enhances the colours of the finished scarf. This is a step up in material quality from the wool-only intermediate kits in the range.
What Pick-Up Stick Weaving Produces
Pick-up stick weaving uses a flat, pointed wooden stick to manually lift selected warp threads before each weft pass. This creates texture that gives the scarf a distinctive handwoven character. The technique produces a richer, more complex fabric surface than plain tabby weave, turning a simple scarf into a visually interesting textile.
Choose Your Colourway
This kit is available in two colourways, selectable from the dropdown above:
- Blue, pink and grey - a warm, contemporary combination with strong contrast and a playful character
- Lilac, dark grey and pale grey - a cooler, more muted palette with a sophisticated tonal quality
Both colourways use the same 60% Lyocell / 40% Falkland wool yarn blend and produce the same scarf dimensions and pick-up stick pattern.
What You Will Make
A textured scarf in Lyocell/Falkland wool. Finished dimensions: approximately 20cm wide × 155cm long, with an 8cm fringe at each end.
Note: this scarf is narrower and longer than the plain tartan scarf kits (which are typically 22–23cm wide and 150cm long)
The scarf shown in the product images is not included - it is an example of what you will weave with this kit.
