Introduction - Using a weaving loom kit to weave a beautiful woven Christmas gift
As weavers, our family and friends are well acquainted with the woven Christmas gift. Handwoven items woven using a weaving loom kit have a personal touch and showcase the skill and time spent by the person giving the gift. Any handwoven item by its nature is a one of kind gift and this makes it a particularly thoughtful gift. Whilst scarves are a popular gift given by a weaver there are a range of other gifts which can be given with items to decorate the home also being popular gifts. This blog outlines 6 gifts that you can make and give as presents using either a TabbyandTweed weaving loom kit or with your own loom.
The handmade coaster - give the gift of a handmade wool coaster made using a square frame weaving loom
A coaster can be woven using a TabbyandTweed square frame loom weaving kit. A small coaster can be made on a 13cm square frame loom or a more generously sized coaster on a 15cm square frame loom. Using different wool, yarns and fibres a whole range of unique coasters can be made. The ends of each weave can be hemstitched to create a beautiful edge which prevents the weaving from unravelling. Our hemstitching blog is a useful resource if you want to learn how to hemstitch.
A beautiful festive Christmas table runner makes a super special heirloom gift
A Christmas table runner makes a stunning gift. The TabbyandTweed Christmas runner kit can be purchased both with and without a loom and includes the pattern and beautifully soft 100% cotton yarn in festive red, green and grey colours. This gift will bring a touch of handmade charm and a personal touch to festive decorations.
Create unique handwoven bookmarks for the booklover on your gifting list
TabbyandTweed have a wide range of bookmark weaving loom kits. Included in the kit is the frame loom, comb, needle, instructions and yarn for a beginning weaver to create unique bookmarks. The yarn in the kit will create 2 or 3 bookmarks but with the addition of more doubleknit yarn the loom can be reused many times. If you feel inclined you could weave everyone on your Christmas list a bookmark.
Rigid heddle loom scarf weaving kits - weave everyone a scarf!
If you have your own rigid heddle loom then there are a large selection of scarf weaving kits in our TabbyandTweed shop. These kits include the pattern and yarn to weave either a wool or cotton scarf depending on your choice. If you are new to rigid heddle loom weaving then these scarf weaving kits can also be purchased with a fully assembled weaving loom with detailed instructions to get you weaving. People often ask us if they would enjoy weaving and sometimes we suggest that they could with a rigid heddle loom, weave a scarf for each member of their family as a gift and then see how they like weaving. We are pretty confident that after weaving several scarves in different designs, colours and styles they will at that point know that they love to weave. This being said, this is our own view as very enthusiastic weavers!
Weave a Christmas bauble decoration
Weave baubles made from British wool using a TabbyandTweed bauble decoration kit. These baubles make great little gifts to decorate the tree year after year. The kit contains a circular loom, needles, yarn, ribbon and instructions so you will have everything you need to get weaving and create your beautiful tree bauble or wall decoration.
The gift of Christmas table mats contributes to a festive feel during the dining experience.
Festive table mats are both beautiful and practical. These traditional table mats can be woven using a TabbyandTweed kit which is available both with and without a loom. The mats are made with 100% cotton so are easy to wash allowing them to be used year after year.
