A Full Day of Weaving, Guided by Experienced Tutors, in a Relaxed and Friendly Setting
By the end of the day, you will have woven your own 100% British wool scarf on a rigid heddle loom - ready to take home and wear. No experience is needed. Everything is prepared for you before you arrive.
TabbyandTweed’s full-day rigid heddle scarf weaving workshops are held in Wiltshire and are suitable for complete beginners and returning weavers alike. You’ll be taught by Gill and Emma, experienced weavers and loom makers who run every workshop themselves.
Workshops run 10am to 4.30pm at Alderbury Village Hall, Salisbury SP5 3AD, with free parking.
What You will Make
Each participant weaves a length of 100% British wool fabric sufficient for a full-length scarf, a cowl, or a table runner. Most participants complete a full-length scarf on the day and take it home to wash and finish.
You choose your yarn colours at the time of booking from the options on the final image, and Gill and Emma warp your loom in those colours before the workshop day so you can start weaving within minutes of arriving.
What the Day Looks Like
- Looms are set up and warped in your chosen colours, ready for a prompt start
- Emma demonstrates how to use the loom and guides you through your first rows
- Gill and Emma are available throughout the day for help, hints and tips
- In the afternoon, you will be shown how to warp a rigid heddle loom from scratch - useful if you are thinking of buying a loom to use at home
- You leave with a finished woven piece and the skills to continue weaving independently
Refreshments: tea, coffee, water and biscuits are provided. Please bring your own lunch and a pair of scissors.
Who It is For
The workshop is designed for complete beginners who have never woven before. For participants who have woven previously, there is the option of learning pick-up stick techniques to introduce different patterns and textures.
Suitable for ages 18 and over.

Reviews
An absolutely lovely day. A chance to learn a basic weave with our looms set up and ready for us and a very helpful afternoon instruction session on how to set up our own loom, if we have one, to weave at home. Gill and Emma were very knowledgeable and encouraging. Twelve beautiful and unique scarves were made by those of us attending and we were all delighted with what we produced. Highly recommend this workshop for anyone starting out in this craft.
I did a scarf weaving workshop with Emma and Gill, and it was superb! The looms were threaded with our choice of colours ready for a prompt start, and the whole day was organised and timed perfectly. Emma demonstrated how to use the loom, and her and Gill were available throughout the day to offer help, hints and tips. We were also taught how to thread the loom from scratch, which was really helpful. It was a well-planned, comprehensive course in a supportive, friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
Had a wonderful time at the workshop making a scarf. Looms were already set up for us so after a brief introduction we got on with our creations. We were also shown how to set up the looms to start from scratch. Anyone interested in taking up this craft/hobby I would recommend the workshop.
