After months of planning, pattern designing, and more than a few test warps, the TabbyandTweed Weaving Club has officially launched with our first pattern having landed on doorsteps across the UK and beyond.

We wanted to take a moment to share how it is been going, what our founding members can expect as the club gets into its rhythm along with some of the lovely feedback that we have received.
If you have a rigid heddle loom, have warped it up and woven your first project but are not not sure what to do next then read on because the Weaving Club might be of interest to you.
How The Weaving Club Started
If you have been following TabbyandTweed for a while, you will know that we (Emma and Gill) have been teaching weaving workshops and designing kits for some time now. One of the things we kept hearing from workshop attendees, from kit buyers, from people who had just finished their first scarf were some or all of the following questions
· What shall I weave next
· How do a get a good selvedge
· What can I learn now
· How can improve my weaving
· I am not sure what yarn to use
It is a genuinely tricky moment in a weaver's journey. You have got the loom, you have learned the basics and importantly have identified a few problems with your weaving. You are enjoying it but would like to learn more and have a clear next project.
The Weaving Club is our answer to that. A new pattern through the post each month, designed by us, to give you something beautiful to work towards whilst gently introducing or consolidation both new and key skills along the way.
The First Pattern
Now that everyone has received their first copy we can now share that our our first club pattern was designed with new and early-stage rigid heddle weavers in mind. We wanted the first month to feel welcoming so that it was a pattern that was both achievable and satisfying, with just enough of a new challenge to make it interesting.
The Sea Breeze scarf pattern was our first pattern being used to create a white, navy and sky blue scarf woven using plain weave (tabby) with carefully sequenced colour changes in both the warp and weft. The result is a deep navy scarf with paler accents of blue and contrasting white, creating a wearable scarf that would look great with a navy coat or pair of jeans.

What did Weaving Club Members receive in June?
Each member received a beautifully presented pattern with a £5 discount code redeemable against the yarn kit or a rigid heddle loom weaving kit, a photograph of the finished scarf, a letter detailing the exclusive members only webpage with access to the exclusive video tutorials and a visualisation tool.
Each pattern arrived printed and ready to use. No printing required with clear instructions so that members could follow at their own pace.

We know from our teaching that seeing something demonstrated, even if briefly can make all the difference when you working through a new skill for the first time. Alongside the pattern, members also had access to an exclusive video resource for the month. The June videos focussed on weaving a neat selvedge and also creating a knotted fringe.

Colour and Pattern Visualisation
On the members only Weaving Club webpage we also included a Visualisation tool with allowed our members to switch between different yarns in the WYS Colourlab range along with other yarn ranges. The images below show the Sea Breeze scarf using the colours Midnight Navy, Sky Blue and White and an alternative being Fern Green, Phantom Black and Candy Pink. This visualisation tool is a great way to see the final woven outcome when using different colours of yarn enabling the weaver to play with colours before potentially committing to an expensive weaving project with yarn colours which might not look to your liking at the end.

What Our Members Are Saying
It has been a real joy to hear from members who have received their first pattern. There is something lovely about knowing that looms are being warped up in living rooms and kitchen tables all over the country (and further afield - hello to our members in the USA, Canada, and Australia!). One person met us at an event and told us much she had enjoyed receiving the lovely blue envelope through the post and that the pattern had helped her to get her weaving mojo back.
Others have sent us pictures of their woven scarf which have been terrific. This image below shows a stunning scarf woven yarn from the members stash. Whilst the member didn't have any DK yarn in her stash she was able to adjust the pattern and use an appropriate heddle for the yarn that she did have - I think you will agree it is a stunning weave!

We have been delighted to have seen some Seabreeze scarves on Instagram too! We can happily report that we have seen some beautiful selvedge edges! If you have started weaving your first club project, we would love to see it. Either drop us an email or share your weaving on Instagram and tag us at @tabbyandtweed - seeing your finished pieces genuinely makes our day.
Missed out on the first month?
Some weavers contacted us and missed out on subscribing for the first month. To help those people we now have the first month as a back edition. Our subscribers always get the best deal so the one off pattern and resources is more costly but we hope still affordable. This is available via our Weaving Club shop page.
A Note on Yarn Kits
Each month, we offer a small number of the curated yarn kit matched to the pattern. Many people purchased the yarn kit for June so that they received their pattern and the resources ready to get weaving without any colour or yarn decisions being needed. These are available via our Weaving Club shop page.

We know that some of our members also chose to use their own yarn from their yarn stash with equally superb results and we are delighted that our pattern was helpful in allowing them to do this so successfully.
What is Coming Next
We have patterns planned across a range of skills and styles for the next few months, different weave structures, colour ideas, and techniques includign scarves, table ware and home ware to explore as the months unfold. Our aim is that by following along with the club, you will naturally build a broader and more confident repertoire on your loom, without it ever feeling like a lesson.
July's pattern is already designed and almost ready to post in a pink envelope (hint hint). We are excited about it!
Thinking of Joining the Weaving Club?
The Weaving Club is open now. UK membership is £5.99 per month (postage included), and international membership for the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand is £10.49 per month. There's no minimum commitment - you can cancel whenever you like.
You will need a rigid heddle loom with a minimum weaving width of 10.5 inches (27cm) and both an 8epi (or 7.5epi) and 10 epi heddle. If you don't have one yet, you can browse our rigid heddle loom kits here. Some of our members joined the club at the same time as buying their first loom.
Thank you to everyone who joined us in this first month. It means a great deal to us to share what we love about weaving with a community of people who feel the same way. We can't wait to see where the next few months take us together.
