A Mindful Creative Hobby Starts Here – Complete Beginner Kit with Loom, Accessories, and Your First Scarf Project

Weaving is a genuinely mindful creative activity - rhythmic, absorbing, and satisfying in a way that few crafts match. This complete beginner kit gives you everything you need to start: a fully assembled TabbyandTweed rigid heddle loom, all the accessories, with pink and green British wool yarn with instructions for your first scarf project. No prior experience needed. Designed and made in our Salisbury workshop.

Why Weaving?

The over-under rhythm of weaving requires just enough attention to keep your mind present without demanding intense concentration - the kind of absorbed focus that practitioners describe as meditative. As the fabric grows, row by row, there is a visible, satisfying result that builds with every session. For many weavers, the loom becomes a daily practice: a way to slow down, make something beautiful by hand, and spend time entirely in the moment.

The TabbyandTweed rigid heddle loom is compact (34cm x 39cm) and lightweight - easy to set up in any comfortable space and just as easy to put away between sessions.

Your First Project - A Pink and Green Scarf

The included yarn and instruction booklet guide you through weaving the beautiful British wool.  The instruction booklet covers warping, weaving, and finishing the scarf step by step.  There is also a video tutorial on our TabbyTweed YouTube channel which guides new weavers through the steps to set up their loom ready for weaving.

About the Loom

The TabbyandTweed rigid heddle loom has a 26cm weaving width and comes with an 8epi reed - suited to DK weight yarn. It has a neutral heddle position that enables pick-up stick pattern weaving for weavers who want to develop more complex techniques on the same loom. Compact, lightweight, and easy to store.

What Can I Weave Next?

After the first scarf, the loom works with any DK weight yarn. TabbyandTweed sells yarn-and-pattern kits across a range of weave structures and colourways - from simple two-colour checks to tartan, log cabin, and intermediate techniques. Additional reeds for different yarn weights and the 4-shaft extension kit are available for weavers ready to progress further.

The Project Bag Option

Add a TabbyandTweed project bag - a branded bag with inner pockets for the loom and accessories. The bag keeps everything together between sessions and makes the kit a complete, ready-to-give gift.

Made in the UK

The TabbyandTweed rigid heddle loom is designed and made entirely in our Salisbury, Wiltshire workshop. We also run weaving workshops on the same loom - a natural complement for buyers who would like hands-on guidance alongside the kit.
