What Is Houndstooth Weaving?
Houndstooth is a two-colour woven pattern produced by alternating colour sequences in both the warp and the weft. The crossing sequences create the characteristic broken check - the distinctive four-pointed shapes. In 4ply yarn at 10epi, the houndstooth pattern is finer and more precisely defined than in DK: the higher thread density makes colour transitions sharper, the pattern more delicate, and the finished fabric lighter and drapier. The instruction booklet covers the full process - warping, weaving the houndstooth sequence, and finishing the scarf.
Why 4ply?This kit uses 4ply yarn at 10epi - finer than the DK/8epi combination in most TabbyandTweed kits. 4ply produces a lighter, drapier fabric with more precisely defined pattern detail. For houndstooth specifically, the finer yarn makes the four-pointed checks smaller and crisper - a more refined version of the pattern than DK would produce. The 25% nylon in the yarn blend adds durability and a subtle lustre to the soft wool.
