A Grey & Navy Cotton Scarf Kit for Weavers Who Prefer to Avoid Wool - Fully Assembled, Beginner-Friendly, Made in the UK

The only TabbyandTweed loom kit that uses 100% cotton yarn rather than wool. If you - or the person you’re buying for - prefer not to wear wool next to the skin, this is the kit. Weave a grey and navy cotton scarf on a fully assembled rigid heddle loom, with all accessories and instructions included.

Why Cotton?

Cotton produces a woven scarf with different properties from wool: smoother against the skin, crisper in drape, cooler and more breathable, and generally easier to wash. If you have a wool allergy, sensory sensitivity, or simply prefer the feel of cotton to wool, this kit is designed for you.

The 100% cotton DK yarn in this kit produces a grey and navy scarf with a clean, modern character - distinctly different from the warmer, woollier look of the tartan and rainbow kits.

What You’ll Make

A grey and navy cotton scarf, woven on a rigid heddle loom. The pattern produces a classically elegant, wearable result in a timeless colour combination. Finished dimensions: approximately 23cm wide × 150cm long. [Verify fringe length and add.]

The scarf shown in the product images is not included — it is an example of what you will weave with this kit.

What’s in the Kit

  • Rigid heddle loom - fully assembled, 26cm weaving width, 8epi reed (for DK / double knit yarn)
  • 100% soft cotton DK yarn in grey and navy - sufficient to weave the complete scarf
  • 3 shuttles, warping peg, 2 clamps and a plastic threading hook
  • Instruction booklet with step-by-step images for warping and weaving
  • Scarf weaving pattern

Optional: a project bag with internal pockets is available at checkout.

Loom Dimensions

34cm × 39cm × 11cm (heddle up) / 9cm (heddle down). The loom has a neutral heddle position for pick-up stick weaving when you’re ready to explore more complex patterns.

Beyond the Kit

Once the kit yarn is used, the loom works with any DK yarn - including cotton DK in your own colour choices. Additional reeds are available separately: 10epi for 4-ply cotton or yarn, and 6epi for Aran weight. The TabbyandTweed shop also has a range of scarf weaving kits in different patterns and colourways for when you’re ready for a new project.

This is the most accessible full loom kit in the range. It makes a thoughtful, complete gift for anyone who enjoys creative crafts but avoids wool - or simply prefers the look and feel of cotton.

Made in the UK

The loom is designed and made by Gillian Siggers and Emma Baker in TabbyandTweed’s workshop in Salisbury, Wiltshire, using FSC and PEFC certified birch plywood.

FAQ's

Is this kit suitable for wool allergy sufferers?

A: Yes. This kit uses 100% cotton yarn with no wool content. It is specifically designed for weavers who prefer not to use wool, whether due to allergy, sensory sensitivity, or personal preference.

How does cotton yarn differ from wool for weaving?
