A Fully Assembled, Beginner-Friendly Kit with an Exceptionally Soft Yarn Blend - 60% Lyocell, 40% British Falkland Wool
Learn to weave a vibrant orange and turquoise colourblock scarf with this all-inclusive rigid heddle loom kit. The yarn is a 60% Lyocell and 40% British Falkland wool blend - unusually soft, with a subtle natural sheen. Fully assembled, beginner-friendly, made in the UK.
What is Lyocell?
Lyocell is a sustainably produced cellulosic fibre made from wood pulp. It is processed in a closed-loop system that recovers and reuses approximately 99% of its solvent, making it one of the most environmentally responsible textile fibres available. The resulting yarn is exceptionally soft against the skin, naturally moisture-wicking, and has a subtle sheen that enhances the depth and vibrancy of colour in the finished fabric.
In this kit, Lyocell is blended with 40% British Falkland wool - a fine, lustrous wool. The combination produces a yarn that is noticeably softer than pure wool, drapes more fluidly, and catches the light differently from a standard wool scarf. It’s a step up in material quality from anything else in the TabbyandTweed scarf kit range.
The Colourblock Pattern
The colourblock scarf uses bold, solid bands of orange and turquoise - a warm and cool contrast that makes the most of both colours. Unlike a tartan or log cabin pattern, the colourblock design is woven in solid sections: one colour at a time, changing at regular intervals. The result is graphic, contemporary, and striking, while being one of the most straightforward patterns to weave on a rigid heddle loom. An ideal first project.

FAQ's
What is Lyocell yarn?
Lyocell is a sustainably produced fibre made from wood pulp in a closed-loop process. It is exceptionally soft, moisture-wicking, and has a natural sheen. Combined with British Falkland wool in this kit, it produces a yarn that is softer and more lustrous than standard wool.
What is a colourblock scarf pattern?
A colourblock scarf uses distinct solid bands of single colours woven in sections. In this kit, orange and turquoise alternate in panels to produce a bold, graphic result. It is one of the most beginner-accessible scarf patterns.
Is this kit suitable for complete beginners?
Yes. The loom arrives fully assembled. The instruction booklet guides you through warping and weaving step by step with images throughout.
What makes Falkland wool distinctive?
Falkland wool comes from Corriedale and Merino-cross sheep on the Falkland Islands. It is finer and more lustrous than many British upland wools, producing a softer and more lustrous yarn. Combined with Lyocell, it creates an exceptionally soft blend.
Can I use the loom for other projects?
Yes. Once the kit yarn is used, the loom works with any DK yarn. Additional 10epi and 6epi reeds are available separately for 4-ply and Aran weight yarns.
