What This Loom Can Produce
The large frame loom is designed for weavers who want to create substantial woven pieces - beyond the small squares and strips that smaller frame looms produce. The 28cm × 30cm weaving area is suited for:
- Woven wall hangings - tapestry-style pieces designed to be displayed
- Tapestry panels - pictorial or abstract woven textiles
- Fabric lengths - larger woven pieces for use in craft projects, bags, or framed art
- Sampler pieces - for practising and documenting a range of weave structures
What the Heddle Rods Enable
The kit includes two heddle rods and side supports. The heddle rods allow the weaver to lift alternating warp threads simultaneously, creating an opening (the shed) through which the shuttle and weft thread pass. This makes tabby weaving across a wide warp significantly faster and more consistent than lifting each thread individually.
The side supports hold the loom stable while in use, and the neutral position of the heddle rods allows progression into pick-up stick weaving and more complex pattern structures as skills develop.

This kit is suited to weavers who are comfortable with the basics of warping and plain weave and are ready to work at a larger scale with more ambitious projects. The large frame loom is a natural progression once you’re ready for larger pieces.

The loom is designed, cut and made by Gill and Emma in TabbyandTweed’s workshop in Salisbury, Wiltshire, using FSC and PEFC certified birch plywood.
