A British Wool Yarn and Pattern Kit for Weavers Who Already Own a Rigid Heddle Loom

This kit contains everything you need to weave a checked cream and beige scarf in 100% British wool - except the loom. It is designed for weavers who already own a rigid heddle loom and want a beautiful next project to develop their checked weave skills. The finished scarf is approximately 23cm wide and 150cm long, with a 12cm fringe at each end.

What You Will Weave

A classic checked pattern scarf in cream and beige British wool. The check is created by alternating blocks of colour in both the warp and the weft - when the two colour sequences cross, they form the distinctive square check. The instruction booklet sets out the exact warp colour order and weft repeat sequence, so the pattern is repeatable and consistent from start to finish.

The scarf wears beautifully in British wool: warm, slightly textured, and with the natural character of a traceable UK fibre. The 12cm fringe at each end is a defining detail that finishes the piece.

What is Included

  • 4 skeins of 100% British wool yarn in cream and beige (DK weight)
  • Weaving instruction booklet with full threading sequence, warp colour order, and weft repeat chart for the checked design

The loom, heddle, and finished scarf shown in the product images are not included. This is a yarn and pattern kit for weavers who already own a compatible loom.

Loom Compatibility

This kit is designed for use with a rigid heddle loom fitted with a 7.5 or 8 ends per inch (epi) heddle. The pattern requires a total of 82 warp threads - 82 holes and slots across the heddle. At 8epi, this gives a weaving width of approximately 26cm (10.3 inches), which produces the finished scarf width of 23cm after take-up.

The pattern will work on any rigid heddle loom that meets this specification - it is not restricted to the TabbyandTweed loom. If you are unsure whether your loom is compatible, count the holes and slots on your current heddle: 82 total confirms a match.

About the Yarn

The kit uses 100% British wool yarn in DK weight - a natural, traceable fibre from British sheep. British wool has a slight texture and warmth that makes it ideal for scarves and wraps. At DK weight with a 7.5 or 8epi sett, it produces a balanced, medium-weight weave with good drape.

Who This Kit Is For

This kit is for weavers who already own a rigid heddle loom and are ready to move beyond plain weave into structured colour pattern work. It suits someone who has woven their first scarf and wants a defined next project - one that introduces checked colour sequencing and produces a wearable, beautifully finished result.

If you are new to weaving and do not yet own a loom, the TabbyandTweed rigid heddle loom kits include the loom, yarn, and full instructions to get started. This yarn and pattern kit is the natural next project once you are comfortable with warping and plain weave.

Made in the UK

The pattern is designed by TabbyandTweed in their Salisbury, Wiltshire workshop. The yarn is 100% British wool sourced from British sheep.
