Reuse and recycle your waste fabric to create a stunning sustainable coaster using a rigid heddle weaving loom

Creating beautiful, eco-friendly projects can be both rewarding and enjoyable. Weaving can be a great way to both reuse and recycle.  Not only can you explore your creativity, but you will also be creating with a step towards sustainability. A recent project involved the weaving of a vibrant sustainable coaster from leftover fabric scraps using a British wool warp and a TabbyandTweed rigid heddle weaving loom. You can read about this project in our blog which discusses weaving with fabric scraps  which would otherwise have gone to waste creating a practical and attractive item for our home.

4 Shaft Extension Kit for a TabbyandTweed rigid heddle loom

Interested in extending the design possibilities on a rigid heddle weaving loom?  Our 4 shaft loom extension kit allows for a greater range of designs to be woven. Intricate weave structures, such as twills, Krokbragd, herringbones, Overshot and doubleweave can all be woven. Our new 4 shaft extension kit contains adapters for the loom which hold 4 heddle rods and comes with instructions with the option of adding in a 4 shaft sampler kit which guides the weaver through the process of weaving a range of 4 shaft patterns.

We have written a blog detailing how the 4 shaft extension kit works which you can read by clicking here.

New video tutorials on YouTube

We have a growing body of videos and tutorials coming to our TabbyandTweed YouTube channel.  We have two new video tutorials.  One shows how to warp a TabbyandTweed rigid heddle weaving loom with the narrated video showing the steps to warping a loom so that a new weaver can learn to set up their loom using either the video or the detailed written instructions which come with the loom.  The second tutorial guides a new weaver on how to set up and weave on a TabbyandTweed bookmark or square frame loom.

Our sustainable UK small business

We work hard to be a sustainable eco-friendly small business. All our our weaving loom craft kits are designed and made by us in the UK.  We are proud that most of the yarn in our kits is British wool. Sustainability is important to us and our looms are sustainable being made from FSC Birch plywood which is cut using solar generated power (on the sunnier days).  We have moved recently to predominantly recyclable packaging.  We now package our small weaving kits in paper bags without the need for plastic packaging.  Boxes are made of brown recyclable cardboard.  Click here to read about our drive for sustainability. Choosing one of our reusable weaving looms allows you to weave handmade bookmarks, scarves and fabric many times over, developing your skills and creativity with each weave. Our weaving craft kits make perfect gifts for either the beginning weaver or someone who is more experienced in yarn crafts and would enjoy delving into the world of weaving.  The small frame loom kits such as the square and bookmark loom weaving kits are perfect for someone wanting to be creative on a small scale, perhaps learning the basics of the weaving process.  For someone wanting to learn to weave scarves, table runners and fabric then the rigid heddle loom weaving kit allows you to give a gift that keeps on giving with hours of mindful and creative fun.
