The Yarn-Only Version of the TabbyandTweed Rainbow Scarf Kit - For Weavers Who Already Own a Rigid Heddle Loom
A yarn and pattern kit for rigid heddle loom owners who want to weave a vibrant rainbow checked scarf. Includes 7 skeins of British wool in rainbow colours and a full instruction booklet. The loom is not included.
The Rainbow Checked Pattern
The rainbow checked pattern sequences all seven colours of the spectrum through both the warp and the weft, producing a vibrant multicolour check where every pair of crossing colours creates a different visual tone. The result looks far more complex to weave than it actually is - but it does require a specific warping setup and 4 shuttles
The pattern is suitable for a weaver who is confident in warping their rigid heddle loom and has completed at least one previous project. It is not a first-project kit.
Why 7 Skeins?
The rainbow checked pattern uses one colour for each of the seven colours of the spectrum. Each colour is used in both the warp and weft, which is why 7 skeins are needed - more than any other yarn-only kit in the TabbyandTweed range. The result is a scarf with every colour of the rainbow in a vibrant checked arrangement.
The 4-Shuttle Setup
This kit works best with 4 shuttles. Each shuttle is wound with two different coloured yarns, allowing the weaver to work through the 7-colour sequence without constantly stopping to re-wind. If you only have 3 shuttles, you can still weave this pattern but will need to re-wind more frequently. 4 shuttles is the recommended setup.
Note: the full rainbow loom kit (which includes the loom) specifies 3 shuttles. If you are using the TabbyandTweed rigid heddle loom from the full kit, you may wish to purchase one additional shuttle separately to get the most comfortable weaving experience with this yarn kit.
