Scarf Weaving Kits for Rigid Heddle Looms - Yarn and Pattern Kits for Beginners and Experienced Weavers
Whether you are picking up a shuttle for the first time or have years of weaving behind you, our scarf weaving kits are designed to inspire, guide and delight. Each kit includes yarn and easy-to-follow instructions - everything you need to weave a scarf on your own rigid heddle loom, with no loom purchase required. Kits are available in DK weight and 4-ply weight British wool, with a range of colourways and weave patterns including tartan, log cabin, colour and weave, pick-up stick, and plain weave. All kits are £38–£42 and are designed and made in the UK by Emma and Gill.
All kits on this page are yarn-and-pattern kits: they include yarn, a printed pattern, and instructions, but not a loom. They are designed for weavers who already own a rigid heddle loom. The majority of kits use DK weight British wool, which is suitable for an 8 epi heddle. A small number of kits use 4-ply weight yarn, requiring a 10 epi heddle, and others use cotton which are clearly labelled. If you are unsure which heddle to use for a specific kit, the product page for each kit gives full compatibility details.
Kits are designed by Emma and Gill and made in the UK. All patterns are printed and include warping instructions, weaving instructions, and finishing guidance. Weave patterns on this page include tartan, log cabin, colour and weave, pick-up stick textures, plain weave, and triangle cowl construction.

Frequently Asked Questions - Scarf Weaving Kits
Do these kits include a loom?
No - all kits on this page are yarn-and-pattern kits for weavers who already own a rigid heddle loom. They include yarn, a printed pattern with warping and weaving instructions, and any additional tools required by the specific kit (such as a pick-up stick). If you are looking for a complete kit that includes a loom, see the Rigid Heddle Loom Kits page.
How do I know which kit is compatible with my loom?
Most kits on this page use DK weight yarn and require an 8 epi (or 7.5 epi) heddle with a minimum weaving width of around 10.5 inches. The 4-ply kits require a 10 epi heddle. Cotton kits follow the same DK/8epi specification. The full heddle size and warp requirements are listed on each individual product page.
What is the difference between a DK kit and a 4-ply kit?
DK (double knit) is a medium-weight yarn that works on an 8 epi heddle and produces a warm, well-structured scarf with good drape. 4-ply is a finer yarn that requires a 10 epi heddle and produces a lighter, more delicate scarf with a softer drape. Most beginners start with DK, it is easier to see the weave structure and correct mistakes. 4-ply is better suited to weavers who are comfortable with their loom and want a finer finished piece.
What weave patterns are available in the scarf kits?
The kits on this page cover a range of weave patterns: tartan (multiple colourways), log cabin, colour and weave, pick-up stick textures, plain weave, and triangle cowl construction. Beginner kits generally use tartan or plain weave patterns; intermediate kits introduce log cabin, colour and weave, and pick-up stick techniques. The skill level for each kit is indicated in the product grid labels.
Can I use these kits with a loom from a different brand?
Yes - the kits are designed for the TabbyandTweed rigid heddle loom but will work with any rigid heddle loom that has the correct heddle size and weaving width. The pattern for each kit specifies the heddle size, sett, and minimum warp width required. If you have a Ashford, Schacht, Kromski, or other brand of rigid heddle loom, check the product page for compatibility details.
Are these kits suitable as gifts for someone who already has a rigid heddle loom?
Yes - scarf weaving kits make excellent gifts for weavers who already have a loom and are looking for their next project. They are a particularly good choice for someone who has completed a beginner kit and is ready to try a new colour combination or technique. If you are not sure of the recipient’s heddle size or colour preferences, a gift card is available as an alternative.
Do the kits include enough yarn to make a full-length scarf?
Yes - each kit includes enough yarn to weave a full adult scarf in the colourway and pattern shown. The pattern specifies the finished scarf dimensions. If you want to weave a longer or wider scarf than the pattern specifies, you will need additional yarn.
