No experience needed. Designed and made in our Salisbury workshop.

What Is Houndstooth Weaving?

Houndstooth is a classic woven pattern produced by alternating colour sequences in both the warp and the weft. The crossing sequences create the characteristic broken check -the distinctive four-pointed shapes that make houndstooth immediately recognisable. Standard houndstooth uses two colours; this kit is a three-colour variation in pink, lime and turquoise, which produces a richer, more complex colour interaction than a conventional two-colour version. The instruction booklet guides you through the exact threading and weft sequence step by step.

What You'll Make

A pink, lime and turquoise houndstooth scarf in 100% British wool - bold, bright, and striking. The three-colour design uses three shuttles (one per colour), each used in rotation across the weft sequence. The instruction booklet covers the full process: setting up the loom, warping the three-colour sequence, and weaving the houndstooth pattern from start to finish.

What's Included

  • TabbyandTweed rigid heddle loom - 26cm weaving width, 8epi reed included, fully assembled
  • Three shuttles - one for each colour in the houndstooth weft sequence

About the Loom

The TabbyandTweed rigid heddle loom has a 26cm weaving width and comes with an 8epi reed suited to DK weight yarn. It has a neutral heddle position for pick-up stick weaving - a natural next step for weavers ready to develop more complex techniques on the same loom. Dimensions: 34cm x 39cm footprint; 11cm height with heddle raised, 9cm lowered. Compact, lightweight and easy to store.

What Can I Weave Next?

After the houndstooth first project, the loom works with any DK weight yarn. TabbyandTweed sells yarn-and-pattern kits across a range of weave structures - including tartan, log cabin, and the cotton houndstooth kits if you want to continue weaving houndstooth in a different colourway or fibre. Additional reeds and the 4-shaft extension kit are available for weavers ready to progress further.

The Project Bag Option

Add a TabbyandTweed project bag - a branded bag with inner pockets designed to hold the loom and accessories. The bag keeps everything together between sessions and completes the kit as a ready-to-give gift.

Made in the UK

The TabbyandTweed rigid heddle loom is designed and made entirely in our workshop in Salisbury, Wiltshire. We also run weaving workshops on the same loom if you would like hands-on guidance alongside the kit.

FAQ's

Does this kit include the loom?

Yes. This is a complete kit - the fully assembled loom, three shuttles, and all accessories are included, along with four skeins of pink, lime and turquoise British wool for the houndstooth first project.

What is houndstooth weaving?

Houndstooth is a pattern made by alternating colour sequences in both warp and weft, producing the characteristic broken check. This kit uses three colours - pink, lime and turquoise - which makes it a three-colour variation producing a richer, more complex pattern than standard two-colour houndstooth.

Why does the kit include three shuttles?

The houndstooth first project uses three colours in the weft. Each colour has its own shuttle, used in rotation across each row - this makes maintaining the colour sequence significantly easier than cutting and rejoining yarn between rows.

Is this suitable for a complete beginner?

Yes. The instruction booklet is written for beginners with no prior experience, and covers every step from setting up the loom to completing the houndstooth scarf.

Can I weave houndstooth after the first project using different yarn?

Yes. The loom is fully reusable with any DK weight yarn. TabbyandTweed also sells a cotton houndstooth scarf kit (yarn and pattern only, no loom) in navy/grey and pink/grey if you want to continue with houndstooth in different colourways.

Is this a good gift?

Yes - particularly for a buyer looking for a bold, contemporary gift. The pink, lime and turquoise colourway is the most striking of the TabbyandTweed complete loom kit range. The optional project bag completes the presentation.
