A Complete Beginner Weaving Kit with the TabbyandTweed Rigid Heddle Loom - 100% Cotton Yarn Included, No Wool
Start weaving from scratch with this complete rigid heddle loom kit - first project in 100% cotton. Everything is in the box: a fully assembled TabbyandTweed rigid heddle loom, all the accessories, and cotton yarn with instructions for your first project, a purple, navy and grey scarf. Ideal for weavers who prefer cotton over wool. No prior experience needed. Designed and made in our Salisbury workshop.
Why Start with Cotton?
This kit is the cotton alternative in the TabbyandTweed complete loom kit range. Where the tartan kit uses British wool for the first project, this kit uses 100% cotton - lighter, crisper, and naturally hypoallergenic. Cotton produces a different kind of fabric from wool: smoother, cooler against the skin, and well suited to scarves and wraps that will be worn in spring and summer as well as winter. It is the right starting material for weavers who prefer plant-based fibres or who have a wool sensitivity.
The weaving technique is identical to the wool kit - the same loom, the same reed, the same instruction booklet. Only the yarn changes.

Your First Project — A Purple, Navy and Grey Cotton Scarf
The included cotton yarn guides you through weaving a purple, navy and grey scarf. The instruction booklet covers setting up the loom, warping with cotton, and weaving the colour sequence. The scarf shown in the product images is an example of what the kit enables you to make - the finished scarf is not included.
Once the included yarn is used, the loom can be used with any DK weight cotton or wool yarn for further projects.
About the Loom
The TabbyandTweed rigid heddle loom has a 26cm weaving width and comes with an 8epi reed, suited to DK weight yarn. The loom has a neutral heddle position that enables pick-up stick pattern weaving - a natural progression for weavers who want to move beyond plain weave. Dimensions: 34cm x 39cm footprint, 11cm height with the heddle raised, 9cm lowered. Compact, lightweight, and easy to store.
What Can I Weave Next?
After the first cotton scarf, the loom works with any DK weight cotton yarn for further cotton projects. TabbyandTweed also sells cotton yarn-and-pattern kits in other colourways for weavers who want to continue in cotton. Additional reeds in different epi ratings are available separately for different yarn weights. If you want to explore wool weaving using the same loom, the TabbyandTweed British wool scarf kits are designed for exactly this loom.
The Project Bag Option
At checkout, you can add a TabbyandTweed project bag - a branded canvas bag with inner pockets designed for storing the loom and accessories. The bag keeps everything together between projects and makes the kit a more complete ready-to-give gift.
Made in the UK
The TabbyandTweed rigid heddle loom is designed and made entirely in our workshop in Salisbury, Wiltshire. We also run weaving workshops on the same loom - a natural companion for buyers who would like hands-on guidance alongside the kit.
FAQ's
Does this kit include a loom?
Yes. This is a complete kit - the fully assembled rigid heddle loom is included, along with all accessories and cotton yarn for the first project. Nothing additional is needed to start weaving.
Why choose cotton over wool for a first weaving project?
Cotton is hypoallergenic, plant-based, and produces a lighter, crisper fabric than wool. It is the right choice for weavers with a wool sensitivity or a preference for non-animal fibres. The weaving technique is identical to wool on the same loom.
Is this kit suitable for a complete beginner?
Yes. No prior weaving experience is needed. The instruction booklet guides you through every step from setting up the loom to completing the first project.
What is the difference between this kit and the tartan complete loom kit?
Both include the same fully assembled TabbyandTweed rigid heddle loom. The difference is the first project yarn: this kit uses 100% cotton for a purple, navy and grey scarf; the tartan kit uses British wool for a black, blue and orange tartan scarf. Choose based on whether you prefer cotton or wool for your first project.
What can I weave after the first scarf?
Any DK weight cotton or wool yarn works on the same loom. TabbyandTweed sells cotton and wool yarn-and-pattern kits for a range of scarf designs. Additional reeds and the 4-shaft extension kit are available for weavers who want to develop further.
Is this a good gift for someone with a wool allergy?
Yes - this is the only complete weaving kit in the TabbyandTweed range that uses cotton for the first project. It is a considered, premium gift for someone who loves making but cannot use wool. The optional project bag makes it a self-contained, ready-to-give present.
