What You Will Make
The rainbow checked scarf uses all 7 colours of the spectrum, warped in sequence and woven to create a vibrant checked pattern. Where different colours cross in the weave, they produce a subtle colour blend in the checked areas - giving the finished scarf a bright, patchwork-like character unlike any plain colourway. The pattern is relatively straightforward and is suitable for a new weaver.
 
Finished dimensions: approximately 23cm wide × 150cm long, with a 12cm fringe at each end.
The scarf shown in the product images is not included — it is an example of what you will weave with this kit.
 
Why 7 Skeins?
The rainbow checked pattern requires one skein for each colour of the rainbow sequence: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Each colour is used in both the warp and the weft, creating the characteristic multicolour checked pattern. This is why this kit includes more skeins than any other TabbyandTweed loom kit.

Beyond the Kit
Once the kit yarn is used, the loom can be used with any DK yarn. Additional reeds are available separately: 10epi for 4-ply yarn and 6epi for Aran weight. Other scarf weaving kits - in tartan, colour and weave, and other colourways are also available in the TabbyandTweed shop. 
 
The loom also has a neutral heddle position for pick-up stick weaving when you’re ready to explore more complex pattern techniques.

The loom is designed and made by Gillian Siggers and Emma Baker in TabbyandTweed’s workshop in Salisbury, Wiltshire, using FSC and PEFC certified birch plywood.

Is this kit suitable for complete beginners?
Yes. The loom arrives fully assembled and the instruction booklet guides you through warping and weaving step by step. There is also a video tutorial on the TabbyandTweed YouTube channel that covers all the steps to warping and setting up the loom ready for weaving.  The rainbow pattern is described as relatively straightforward and suitable for a new weaver.
 
Why does this kit include 7 skeins of yarn?
The rainbow checked pattern uses one colour per row of the spectrum. Each colour appears in both the warp and the weft, which is why 7 skeins are needed - one for each rainbow colour.
